Wayne's Story

1966 -

Track cyclist Wayne McCarney joined forces with Brett Dutton, Stephen McGlede and Dean Woods to win a bronze medal in the men’s 4000m team pursuit in Seoul. From Victoria, McCarney was part of a fine generation of track cyclists who did much to re-establish Australia’s international reputation in the sport. Australia had won a gold medal in the men’s 4000m team pursuit in Los Angeles four years earlier, placing much pressure on the quartet to perform. In a hot competition where the world record was broken four times, McCarney and his teammates proved their class by beating France for the bronze medal.
