Troy's Story
1977 –
Troy Elder won two medals for Australia in men’s hockey: bronze in 2000 and gold in 2004. The Queenslander was a valued goalscorer for the Kookaburras during his career. In Sydney, Elder scored a hat-trick in the bronze medal final as Australia beat Pakistan 6-3. He was a solid contributor four years later when the team finally secured Australia its first gold medal in men’s hockey after 48 years of trying. Elder scored in three of the Kookaburras’ games in Athens, including the first goal in the team’s 6-3 win over Spain in the semi-final. The team beat defending champion the Netherlands 2-1 for the gold.
