About Trent

Trent Mitton started hockey at just 5-years-old, he grew up playing at the Wesley South Perth hockey club and played for WA in state sides.

Trent is a third-generation Kookaburra, with his grandfather Don Mitton representing Australia in 1958 and his father, 1984 Olympian and World Cup gold medallist Grant Mitton, playing from 1983 to 1989.

The striker made his debut 11 years ago against Egypt in the May 2010 Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia and scored his first goal three days later.

Since then Trent has gone on to score 82 goals in 177 matches for the Kookaburras.

After a four-Test series against Argentina in September 2010, Trent was on his way to the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October. Here he won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal, which he backed up with two more gold medals at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

At the end of 2018, Trent helped the Kookaburras to a bronze medal finish at the 2018 World Cup and in 2019 won gold at the FIH Pro League in The Netherlands.

Mitton would once again join the Kookaburra's camp, this time making his Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 games. After an impressive unbeaten run in the group stage of the tournament, Australia would go on to dispatch the Netherlands and Germany in the quarter and semi-finals, reaching their first Olympic finals since Athens 2004. Just falling short of victory in a tense final match against Belgium, decided in a penalty shootout 1(2) - 1(3). Milton would receive an Olympic Silver Medal in his debut at the games.
