Tracey's Story
1967 -
Queenslander Tracey Belbin was a dual Olympian for Australia. Her Games debut was in Seoul when she was a leading defender for the women’s hockey team that won the gold medal. The team reached the final after defeating the Netherlands, the reigning world and Olympic champions, 3-2 in the semi-final. Awaiting them in the final was host nation South Korea. Despite the support of 26,000 fans, the Koreans could not penetrate the Aussie defence, with Belbin among the backs to prove their class. Australia won the match 2-0. Belbin returned to the Games in 1992, where the team placed fifth. She has stayed involved with the sport, enjoying a successful career as an international coach.
