Thomas's Story

1981 -

Thomas ‘Tom’ Brice won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. From South Australia, Brice was a left-hander at bat and in the field. Australia reached the semi-finals by winning four of its seven preliminary round matches, finishing fourth. It beat Japan, the top-ranked team, 1-0 in its semi-final. The final, against two-time Olympic champion Cuba, was a controversial affair. Aussie coach Jon Deeble was ejected after protesting a disputed outfield catch by the Cubans from a Brice drive which reached the fence. Cuba won 6-2. The silver remains Australia’s only Olympic baseball medal.
