Teagan's Story

Teagan Levi is known as the “Pit Bull” to her teammates in the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens team, for her intensity on both sides of the ball.

“When I go out on the field, I just turn into some crazy person,” Teagan said.

“Wherever the ball is, I want to be there and if someone has a ball in front of me, I just want to nail them.

“That’s my nickname and I actually love it. It’s pretty cool to be called ‘Pity’ all the time and just to be known for that out in the field is really exciting.”

Teagan was one of nine debutants on the Australian team that won the gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, joining her sister Maddison as the first siblings to represent Australia in the sport at the Commonwealth Games.

The sisters, who were born in Sydney but grew up on the Gold Coast, first showed their talents on the field at Miami State High School, where Sevens legend Charlotte Caslick – their future Australian captain – visited to show off her Olympic medal after the Rio Games.

They were the stars of Queensland under-17 side at the National Youth Sevens tournament in 2019, but their athletic gifts were recognised by the Gold Coast Suns and the duo was drafted to AFLW at the end of 2020. However, the lure of travelling the world playing rugby proved too much. While Maddison played eight AFLW games before switching back to Sevens, Teagan never actually took the field before she moved back to Sydney to focus on Rugby.

After winning gold in Birmingham, Teagan was a member of the Australian team that won the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup in Cape Town.

She was also in the team that finished second in the 2022-23 World Rugby Sevens Series, with New Zealand taking the title.

At the end of 2023, Teagan and Maddison, seen as critical to the future of the Australian Sevens team, recommitted to Rugby Australia until 2026, despite interest from both AFLW and NRLW.

They were part of the team that wrapped up the 2023-24 World Series as overall champions prior to the Paris Olympics.

Teagan was a key contributor to a perfect three wins from three games in the pool stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The side took care of Ireland in the quarter-finals 40-7 before a strong Canadian team halted Australia's run in the semi-finals, inflicting a 21-12 loss.

In a tense fight for a bronze medal against the USA, the Americans scored a converted try after time expired for a 14-12 score to relegate the Aussies to fourth place.
