Born in India, 2008 Olympian Tania Luiz moved with her family from Oman to Australia in 1992 at the age of nine. Luiz represented Australia in badminton doubles at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Luiz then partnered with Indonesian-born Eugenia Tanaka in 2007 on the road to Beijing. An ACL injury suffered by Luiz forced the pair off the badminton circuit until early 2008. Luiz and Tanaka lost their opening match to Japan at the Olympics.
