Tameka's Story

With the ability to play all over the field and more than 150 international caps under her belt, Tameka Yallop brings a wealth of experience to the Matildas.

A part of the national team since 2007, Tameka was a member of the Australian side that won the 2010 Asian Cup and in the following year she was named to the Matildas 2011 World Cup squad.

Four years later Tameka was selected for another World Cup appearance. In the tournament Australia was eliminated at the quarter-final stage, mirroring the results of the Matildas' World Cup campaign four years earlier.

She became an Olympian with the Matildas' squad at Rio 2016 squad. At the Games, the Matildas were made it to the quarter-finals and were knocked out by hosts Brazil in a penalty shootout.

Tameka also played for the Brisbane Roar between 2008 and 2018, with stints in the United States and Europe.

For the 2019 World Cup, Tameka was a prominent fixture in the Matildas starting line-ups as the side qualified for the round of 16 against Norway. After playing the whole match, the Australian side was eliminated in a penalty shootout.

At Tokyo 2020 Tameka and the Matildas made all of Australia proud in putting together a historic achievement.

Their fourth-place finish, which was nearly a podium finish after a 4-3 loss to the USA in the bronze medal game, is the highest ever finish by the Matildas at an Olympic Games.

In 2021-22 she had a season with West Ham and then joined Norwegian club Brann, before a return to the Roar in 2023.

Although contributing mostly from the bench as the Matildas captured Australia’s imagination with their thrilling run to the semi-finals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Tameka played a vital leadership role.

She was there again as the Matildas qualified for the Paris Olympics with home and away victories over Uzbekistan in February 2024.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics the Matildas faced Germany, Zambia and the USA in a tough Group B.

She missed the Matildas' tournament-opening 3-0 loss to Germany due to injury, which was followed by a dramatic 11-goal thriller against Zambia, where the Matildas came back from 5-2 down to win 6-5. In a must-win scenario against the USA to stay alive, the Matildas' tournament ended on another 3-0 loss.
