Sophie's Story
Born in Adelaide, Sophie Linn competed in cross country, swimming and track and field events during her school days.
Winning multiple medals for her school at national level in 800m, 1500m and 3000m races, Sophie was also the national cross country champion in 2007 at age 12.
At age 16 Sophie competed at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, winning silver in the 1500m whilst also finishing seventh in the 3000m.
After finishing high school in 2012, Sophie moved to the USA to continue her athletic journey at the University of Mississippi, most notably being named in the best freshman team.
In 2014 she moved to the University of Michigan, where she stayed until graduating in 2018. During her time in Michigan, Sophie was a part of the Great Lakes Regional and Big Ten Championship teams whilst also winning the school's Athletic Academic Achievement Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
It wasn't until 2018 when Sophie turned to triathlons, as she started competing across multiple events in both the USA and Australia.
In 2019 Sophie finished her first World Triathlon Cup race after recording a DNF (did not finish) in 2018. It was also in 2019 where Sophie won her first gold medal, winning the Triathlon Asian Cup in Japan.
After the pandemic halted triathlon competitions, Sophie returned in mid-2021 after sustaining a partially torn Achilles, before winning gold in 2022 at the Oceania Triathlon Cup on home soil.
In mid-2022 Sophie competed in her first senior Commonwealth Games as she finished with a silver medal in the mixed team relay as well as a fifth place finish in the individual women's triathlon.
Later that same year Sophie won her first World Triathlon Championship medal, finishing second in Hamburg.
Encouragingly Sophie recorded her best international result of her career prior to the Paris Olympics, winning her first World Triathlon Cup individual gold medal and being part of the winning mixed relay team in Napier.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics Sophie was consistently placed across all three disciplines to finish 21st in 1:58.52, competing in front of family and friends.
Then with the Australian Mixed Relay Triathlon team of Natalie Van Coevorden, Matt Hauser and Luke Willian they finished 12th in 1:28.50.
