Sophie Edington made her Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games at the age of 23. In Beijing, Edington made the semi-finals in her pet event, the 100m backstroke, finishing 13th. Although not an Olympic distance, Edington held the 50m backstroke record in 2008. In 2010 she won gold in the 50m backstroke at both the Pan Pacs and Commonwealth Games. In 2006 Edington won three gold medals at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
