Shelley's Story

1969 -

Shelley Sandie represented Australia in women’s basketball in three Olympics, winning two medals: bronze in 1996 and silver in 2000. The Victorian forward made her Olympic debut under her maiden name, Gorman, in 1988, with the team placing fourth. Australia did not qualify for the 1992 Olympics. Sandie returned to the Games in Atlanta and proved a key contributor in both of her medal-winning Olympic campaigns. The 1996 bronze medal was Australia’s first medal in the sport. The team went one better in Sydney, remaining undefeated before losing the final to the United States.
