Shara's Story
London’s torrential rain and hailstones featured heavily in the women’s road race event at the 2012 Olympic Games. Shara Gillow was Australia’s best finisher out of the three female debutants racing in the green and gold. The Queenslander looked well placed to feature prominently when she dropped her chain about 10km from the finish and finished in 39th spot, 1min53sec behind winner, Marianne Vos, of the Netherlands.
Gillow finished 13th in the women’s road time-trial behind defending champion Kristin Armstrong of the USA.
