About Samu

Fijian-born Samu Kerevi moved to Australia when he was 4-years-old. Growing up, Samu had a sports scholarship at the prestigious Brisbane State High School and gained Australian Schoolboys selection in 2011.

Playing for GPS Old Boys in club rugby, Samu's dual citizenship allowed him to play alongside his brother Josua for Fiji at the 2012 Junior World Championships in South Africa. Samu scored three tries in his opening two matches against Wales and Samoa.

In 2013, Samu joined Rugby Australia's academy and was selected for the U20s Australian team to play in the 2013 Junior World Championships, however, he was unable to take part due to a shoulder injury.

Three years later, he was selected in the Australian team for the 2016 England Rugby Union Tour of Australia and in 2019 was named vice-captain of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Between 2014 and 2019, the powerful centre played 73 games with the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby.

Following the World Cup, Samu signed a contract with leading Tokyo-based club Suntory Sungoliath. In 2021, he decided to swap to the sevens format in the hope to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games. He was subsequently selected to play with the Australian side at the Oceania Sevens Challenge held in Townsville in June 2021.

The former Wallabies star made his Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games with the Australian rugby sevens team. Scoring twice in the group stage of the tournament, Australia would finish third in their group, setting up a quarter-final tie against Samu's second nation Fiji. Australia would fall short against Fiji, eliminated from medal contention after losing 19-0. They would later achieve 7th overall at the tournament after losing to South Africa and defeating Canada in the 5-8th playoff stage of the games.
