Ronald's Story
1936 –
Ron Crawford competed as a walker at three Olympic Games, Melbourne 1956, Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. He finished 13th in both the 20 kilometres and 50 kilometres events at Melbourne. The shorter event made its debut at those Olympics. He improved two places in the 20 kilometres event at Rome, but was disqualified in the longer race at 30 kilometres when he was amongst the leaders.
His final Olympics were at Tokyo, where he had another 11th placing, in the 50 kilometres, and finished 22nd in the 20 kilometres. His only national title was in the 10 kilometres walk at the 1961 Australian Walking Championships.
