Robyn's Story
1959 -
Robyn Maher is one of the most decorated and admired players in the history of Australian basketball. The three-time Olympian was captain of the Australian women’s team that won the bronze medal in 1996, our first medal in the sport. Maher made her Olympic debut in 1984, returning to the Games in 1988 as the team began its steady climb up the world rankings. Maher was a tenacious defender and team player, whose leadership and court sense was a feature of the Opals for almost two decades. Beyond her three Olympics, Maher also represented Australia at six world championships. Her husband, Tom Maher, was coach of the Opals in both 1996 and 2000.
