Robert's Story

11/11/1973 –

Queenslander Robert Peden was arguably Australia’s best performed amateur boxer in the 1990s.

At Barcelona 1992, he was successful in two bouts of the flyweight division, before being beaten in the quarter-finals by the eventual gold medallist, Choi Chol-Su of North Korea.

At Atlanta 1996, he was defeated on points in his second bout by the eventual featherweight silver medallist, Seraphim Todorov of Bulgaria.

At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria Canada, he won Australia’s first boxing gold medal in 16 years in the 54kg class.

Peden is a member of the Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Fame.
