Robert's Story
Weightlifter Robert Kabbas won a silver medal in the 82.5kg (light-heavyweight) division in 1984. It was his third Olympics, having previously represented Australia in 1976 and 1980. Kabbas lifted a total of 342.5kg to win the silver. His medal was only Australia’s second weightlifting medal in Olympic history behind Vern Barberis’s bronze in 1952. However, within days of Kabbas’s silver, South Australian Dean Lukin would win his historic gold medal in the super-heavyweight division. Kabbas has remained involved in the sport as both a coach and administrator.
