Robert's Story
1945 -
Robert Haigh represented Australia in men’s hockey at three consecutive Olympics: 1968, 1972 and 1976. He won silver medals in 1968 and 1976, with the team placing fifth in 1972. Regarded as one of Australia’s finest players, Haigh was unlucky never to experience ultimate Olympic success. The team lost the 1968 final to Pakistan 2-1 and the 1976 final to New Zealand 1-0. However, Haigh would later enjoy Olympic success as a coach, being an assistant coach of the Hockeyroos, Australia’s women’s team, when it won gold at Sydney 2000.
