Renuga's Story

Renuga Veeran was born in Malaysia into a family with a strong pedigree in the sport with both her parents and brother representing their home country. Veeran migrated to Australia with her family when she was 16 and became Australia's top ranked female player that year.

She began with doubles partner Leanne Choo in 2010, the same year they made the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games. The pair qualified for their first Olympic Games in London.

They took out their match against South Africa in straight sets and despite losing the other two group matches against top ten opponents progressed to the quarter finals after a number of teams were disqualified after tanking (purposely playing below standard) to secure a better draw. Veeran and Choo were unable to capitalise on the opportunity going down to Canada (21-9 18-21 21-18) in the quarter-finals.
