Rebecca's Story
The older of the two Rippon sisters, Rebecca Rippon was part of the bronze medal winning Australian water polo team at Beijing 2008. Her younger sister step-sister Kate Gynther were also on the team. They were one of two sets of sisters represented – Jenna and Mia Santoromito were the other. The Aussies enjoyed a pressure-packed Olympics. Of its six matches, one was decided by two goals, four by a single goal and the other one was tied. The bronze medal final against Hungary was decided in a penalty shoot-out, the final score being 12-11. Rippon, along with Melissa and Kate, had made her Olympic debut in Athens, where the team placed fourth.
