Rebecca's Story
1970 -
Rower Rebecca Joyce teamed with Virginia Lee to win a bronze medal in the women’s lightweight double sculls in Atlanta. The pair won their heat and semi-final, proving their form and fitness. They lowered their time in the final to win the bronze. Joyce, from Sydney, had won the world title in the lightweight single scull in 1995. Her international success was all the more remarkable because she had to overcome chronic fatigue syndrome in the years before Atlanta. Joyce remains actively involved in the sport as an administrator.
