Rachel's Story
1978 -
Rachel Imison won a gold medal for Australia in women’s hockey at Sydney 2000. The Victorian shared the goalkeeping duties with Clover Maitland, who had won a gold medal in Atlanta four years earlier. However, it was Imison that emerged as the form keeper of the tournament. She was in goals for the gold medal final, which the Hockeyroos won 3-1 against Argentina. Imison was a pivotal member of the Hockeyroos’ brilliant defence. Over its eight matches, the team never conceded more than one goal in a game and outscored its opposition 25-5. Imison is a triple Olympian, having also represented Australia at the 2004 and 2008 Games, with the team placing fifth on both occasions. Highly decorated as a keeper, Imison’s other wins with the Hockeyroos include three Champions Trophy titles and two Commonwealth Games gold medals.
