Phoebe's Story
Growing up in Brisbane, Phoebe Learmont started out in gymnastics as a six-year-old, initially as an artistic gymnast.
However, she found her home in rhythmic gymnastics, a sport that she believes has taught her a great deal.
“Rhythmic gymnastics has taught me … dedication, patience, respect and work ethic,” Phoebe said.
Her breakthrough year came in 2017, when she placed first in hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon and all around at the Australian titles.
After a successful junior career, Phoebe became part of the Aspire Gymnastics group, which will compete in group rhythmic at the Paris Olympics.
The group – Phoebe, Saskia Broedelet, Emmanouela Frroku, Jess Weintraub and Lidiia Iakovleva – performed well throughout 2023, winning medals at competitions such as the Sofia Cup in Bulgaria.
The group won a quota for Australia with a victory at the 2024 Oceania Continental titles in Budapest, Hungary. The championships were run in conjunction with the European titles.
It is just the second time an Australian rhythmic gymnastics group has qualified to compete at an Olympic Games.
