Paul's Story
1942 - 2015
The men’s hockey team won its first Olympic medal, a bronze behind India and Pakistan, at Tokyo 1964. At Mexico City 1968, the team finished second to Pakistan after defeating India in the semi-final. Paul Dearing, a courageous goalkeeper from New South Wales, was a member of the teams to Tokyo, Mexico City and Munich 1972. He was rated as the world’s best goalkeeper for a number of years from the late sixties to the early seventies.
In 2008, he was one of the inaugural inductees into the Hockey Australia Hall of Fame.
