Oliver's Story
1938 – DOD unknown
Ollie Taylor won a bronze medal in the bantamweight boxing at Rome 1960. With Tony Madigan's bronze medal in the light heavyweight division, the Rome boxers are the best performed of all Australian Olympic boxing teams. Taylor and his brother Wally had announced their talents on the international boxing scene by winning gold (Wally) and silver medals (Ollie) at the Empire and Commonwealth Games at Cardiff 1958. Ollie Taylor turned professional soon after Rome but never won an Australian title. The nearest he came was a defeat on points to Johnny Famechon, the future world champion, for the vacant featherweight championship in September 1964.
