Oenone's Story
Road race specialist Oenone Wood is a dual Olympian. Wood began cycling at the age of 20 when a friend convinced her to enter a road race. Wood went on to make her Australian debut in 2003 and was selected in the Athens 2004 Olympic Team. Wood came sixth in the individual time trial and came close to a medal in the road race, finishing fourth. Wood won gold and silver medals in the same events respectively at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. In 2008 Wood won the Australian Road Race Championships and competed at her second Olympics in Beijing. Wood finished 22nd in the time trial and 29th in the road race on a road course considered one of the toughest in Olympic history.
