Nicholas's Story
1985 -
At Athens 2004, Nicholas Sprenger joined with Olympic greats in Ian Thorpe, Michael Klim and Grant Hackett to claim the silver medal, behind the United States, in the 4 x 200 metres relay. Todd Pearson, Antony Matkovich and Craig Stephens had swum in the heat. In the final, Thorpe desperately tried to reel in the lead set up by the first three Americans but fell 0.13 seconds short, in the closest finish in the event since Los Angeles 1984. Four years later at Beijing 2008, Sprenger swam in the preliminaries of the 200 metres freestyle. At the world championships, Sprenger was a member of the 4 x 200 metres relay teams that won gold in 2003 and bronze in 2005.
