Nathan Sobey started his NBL career with the Cairns Taipans in 2014 and moved to the Adelaide 36ers for the 2015-16 season, staying with them for four years. During which time he made his Boomers debut in 2017, the same year Nathan claimed the NBL’s Most Improved Player and made the NBL All-Second Team.
He was initially named for the FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut in 2017 but missed the tournament due to injury. Nathan finally got to pull on the gold singlet during the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers and then was named in the 17-man squad for the Boomers team going to China.
Between 2017-19 he played in Europe with PAOK club in Greece, SIG Strasbourg in France and with the Brisbane Bullets in the NBL - the NBL team he has spent the past four seasons with.
Nathan was also invited to play the 2017 NBA Summer League with the Utah Jazz and played on the Boomers' gold medal winning team at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
At the 2019 Australian Basketball Hall of Fame awards night Nathan was recognised alongside Nick Kay with the 2019 Gaze Family Medal for performances during both the World Cup Qualifiers and the Commonwealth Games.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (in 2021) Nathan and the Boomers lifted Australia to the bronze medal, defeating Slovenia in the bronze medal match 107-93.
The dual Olympian helped achieved our nation's first men's basketball Olympic medal since Australia made its men's basketball Olympic debut in 1956.
Nathan played in all six games for the Boomers, averaging 6.4 minutes per game off the bench.
