Naazmi's Story
Naazmi Johnston was Australia’s sole competitor in rhythmic gymnastics at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games where she finished 22nd. Johnston began gymnastics aged five and had joined the High Performance Program just two years later. Johnston competed at her first World Championships in 2005 and competed at the Commonwealth Games a year later where she finished fourth in the all around and won a team bronze. At Johnston’s second World Championship in 2007 she was the top placed Oceania gymnast, earning her a wildcard position for the 2008 Olympics. Johnston also competed in the 2001 Sydney Youth Olympic Festival, winning a bronze medal.
