Monica's Story

Monica MacDonald and Rodney Clarke were Australia's first Olympics in the Figure Skating discipline of Ice Dancing. Competing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, MacDonald and Clarke finished 20th.

The duo won their first of four consecutive national titles together in 1985. MacDonald would go on to win three more consecutively with Duncan Smart. MacDonald and Clarke competed at three World Championships together (1986 - 1988), with their best result being 19th.

It would be 26 years before Australia would have another Olympic Ice Dancing pair in Danielle O'Brien and Greg Merriman. When they were young, the pair from Sydney were coached by MacDonald.

MacDonald's daughter Chantelle Kerry competed in ladies' individual at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in 2012 in Innsbruck and her son Brendan Kerry competed in men's individual at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
