Michellie's Story

1969 –

On the first day of full competition at the Sydney Olympic Games, Michellie Jones claimed the silver medal at the inaugural staging of an Olympic triathlon. Jones, the world champion from 1992 and 1993, led to within sight of the finishing line when she was passed by the Swiss Brigitte McMahon in front of the Opera House steps. In 2003, Jones won the test event for Athens 2004 but was overlooked for selection. In 2006, she became the first Australian woman to win the (Hawaiian) Ironman World Championship.
