Michael's Story

Michael Ah Matt was born in Queensland, raised in Darwin and played most of his basketball in South Australia. He competed at Tokyo 1964. Michael was also in the 1968 Australian team that missed out on competing at Mexico City 1968 as it was unsuccessful at the final pre-Olympics qualifying tournament.

With Adrian Blair and Frank Roberts, Ah Matt was a member of the first group of indigenous athletes in the Australian Olympic Team.

The Aboriginal and Islander Sports Hall of Famer tragically passed away of a heart attack in 1984 and in 2010 was posthumously inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame.
