Melissa's Story
Melissa Gorman was a dual finalist at the 2003 Youth Olympic Festival. Upon promotion to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Team, Gorman competed in the newly introduced 10km marathon swim as well as the 800m. Aged 22 at the time, Gorman finished 15th and 17th respectively. Although a chronic asthmatic, Gorman won gold in the 2009 5km open water World Championships in Rome, gold in the 1500m at the 2010 Pan Pacs- breaking the Australian record in the process - and bronze in the 10km open water swim.
Gorman returned to compete at the 2012 London Games where she finished 11th in the 10km swim in a time of 1:58.53.1.
