Melinda's Story

Melinda Gainsford-Taylor is one of Australia's most successful sprinters, representing Australia at three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. Born in Narromine, New South Wales, on 1 October 1971, she specialized in the 100 metres and 200 metres.

At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Gainsford-Taylor competed in the 200 metres and was also a member of Australia's 4 × 400 metre relay team. Her Olympic career spanned three Games and established her as one of Australia's premier female sprinters of the 1990s.

Her greatest international achievement came in 1995 when she won the World Indoor Championship title in the 200 metres. She also earned medals at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games, while setting Australian records in both sprint events.
