Matthew's Story
Growing up in rural Victoria, Matthew Williams began riding horses when he was three. In 2003 he won the Australian Junior Jumping title and was also named the Junior Rider of the Year. The following year he was named the Young Rider of the Year for jumping and then moved to England to further his equestrian career. He also spent time in Belgium and Switzerland before moving to Florida, USA.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Williams competed in the individual and team jumping events, with Leconte 6 placing 21st and seventh respectively. Four years later in London, riding Watch me VD Mangelaar, Williams competed at his second Olympics where his best result was 10th as part of the team event. At his third Games in Rio, he finished 28th overall in the individual event and 13th in the team event.
