About Matthew
Matthew made his World Cup competition debut in halfpipe in 2015 but began directing his focus into big air and slopestyle in 2019 and hasn’t looked back. He earned 5th place in the 2019 Cardrona World Cup big air in New Zealand and backed it up with 5th in slopestyle.
He continued that success up with 10th in big air at the Beijing World Cup.
Strong results in the latter part of the 2020-21 season put Matthew Cox on the road to an Olympic debut in Beijing.
He took silver in slopestyle at the 2021 US Open in Aspen and another silver at the US Nationals in Copper Mountain a month later.
Matt recorded a top-10 finish at the 2021 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Championships in Aspen (10th) in big air.
Two more podiums came in big air and slopestyle at the FIS events at Perisher Valley in August 2021 and Matthew was putting himself firmly in the frame for selection.
In October he finished 11th in big air at the Chur, Switzerland, World Cup before starting 2022 finishing 7th in slopestyle at the Laax World Cup, also in Switzerland.
Rewarded with his first Australian Olympic Team appearance, Matthew has come a long way since his first snowboard competition as a six-year-old and first strapping on a snowboard at age two.
His Olympic debut included a 26th place finish in slopestyle and 28th in big air.
