Mark's Story

1965 -

Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge are fondly remembered as the ‘the Woodies’, the most formidable men’s doubles tennis team of their era. Among their achievements were two memorable moments at the Olympics: gold in Atlanta and silver four years later in Sydney. Their 1996 success remains Australia’s only gold medal in tennis, and they remain our only dual medallists in the sport. Woodforde also was a talented singles player, but it is in doubles that he forged his reputation. The South Australian was the top-ranked doubles player in the world. His other achievements include 12 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles (11 of which were won with Woodbridge), 5 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles and a Davis Cup win.
