Marguerite's Story
The rower from Brisbane also competed at the inaugural 2001 Sydney Youth Olympic festival, competing in both the quadruple sculls and women’s eight, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. She made her debut on the Australian Rowing Team the following year and was crowned world champion as part of the women’s lightweight quad scull. Houston missed selection in the Athens 2004 squad and took two years to return to full fitness after contracting glandular fever. In 2006, she partnered with Amber Halliday and the pair won silver at the World Championships in the women’s lightweight double scull before going one better the following year and winning gold. Houston made her Olympic debut in 2008 with 2004 Olympian Halliday – the pair finished eighth.
