About Luke

Luke began to compete in major junior tournaments from fifteen-years-old after getting his start in the sport through playing tennis with his older siblings on their home court. He joined the Cobdogla Tennis Club where he began to develop his game, making his professional debut in 2008.

He was a member of the Australian Junior Davis Cup team that had won the tournament in 2009.

He reached his first junior grand slam final at the Australian Open in 2011, defeating Dominic Thiem and Lucas Pouille enroute to the final. He faced Jiri Vesely but was defeated in straight sets, settling for the finalist trophy.

He would go on to win the Boy's Singles title at Wimbledon later that year, defeating Liam Broady in three sets to lift the Championships' trophy at seventeen-years-old.

Saville won the Boys Singles title at the 2012 Australian Open, subsequently clinching the world number one ranking. He was unable to defend his Wimbledon title that year, making it to the final where he lost in straight sets.

Once on the ATP circuit, Luke has found success in the doubles side of the sport. He is an eighteen time singles finalist at Challenger and Futures tournaments, and holds 8 Futures singles titles, across grass, clay and hard courts.

Saville has also claimed 25 doubles titles on the ATP Challenger and Futures circuits, noting his first win at the 2011 Australian F12 event in Traralgon.

Luke produced the best run of his professional career when, alongside team mate Max Purcell, he reached the final of the 2020 Australian Open in the Men's Doubles. The pair had initially entered the tournament through a wildcard, but proved their skill, breezing through their first round match in straight sets. They won the next four matches to make it to their first grand slam final, where they were met by 11th seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. Despite being in the form of their career, the Australian duo were defeated in the final, 6-4, 6-2.

Saville and Purcell once again joined forces at the 2021 French Open, where they were named to the main draw through their ranking alone. They battled opponents to three sets in their first two matches, making it through to the third round of the clay court tournament, the furthest they had gone on the surface as a team. They were defeated in straight sets by eventual semifinalists, Colombian duo Farah and Cabal.

Luke made his Olympic debut in the men's singles at Tokyo 2020, where he was drawn against twelfth seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland. He fell in straight sets, 2-6 4-6.

Over in the men's doubles, Luke joined forces with Queensland's John Millman on the court, who was competing at his second Olympic Games. The pair met Austrian duo Oliver Marach and Phillip Oswald in the first round, where they were unfortunately bested in straight sets, 5-7 2-6.

Saville achieved a career-high doubles ranking of No. 23 in November of 2021.
