Louise's Story

1969 -

Louise Currey (nee McPaul) won a silver medal in women’s javelin in 1996. It was one of only two athletics medals won by Australia in Atlanta, the other being a silver to Cathy Freeman in the women’s 400m. Currey proved herself to be one of the best javelin throwers produced by Australia. Beyond her Olympic medal, she also won Commonwealth Games titles in 1994 and 1998. A triple Olympian, she also competed at the Games in 1992 and 2000. She married Andrew Currey, a dual Olympian for Australia in men’s javelin.
