Lorraine's Story

1961 -

Lorraine Hillas played on the first two women’s hockey teams to represent Australia at the Olympics, in 1984 and 1988. The highlight came at her second Games when she was a member of the team that won Australia’s first hockey gold medal. Hillas had a memorable role in Seoul. A committed team player, Hillas and reserve keeper Maree Fish were substituted on in the last two minutes of the final for their first action of the tournament to ensure they would receive gold medals. (Hockey only awarded medals to players who had been on the field of play during the Games.) Hillas made some vital plays as Australia held on to win 2-0 to record a famous victory.
