Lisa's Story
1970 -
Lisa Carruthers (nee Powell) won successive gold medals with the Hockeyroos in 1996 and 2000. For her first success in Atlanta she was known by her maiden name of Powell, but changed her name after marrying Stuart Carruthers, who won a bronze medal as a member of the Australian men’s hockey team in 1996, before the Sydney Games. Carruthers had another family connection with the Olympics – her younger sister, Katrina, was also a member of the Hockeyroos for both the 1996 and 2000 victories. Their famous family act makes them one of the rare sets of sisters to have shared Olympic glory. Carruthers was a triple Olympian, making her Games debut in 1992, when the team finished fifth.
