Lee's Story

1961 -

West Australian Lee Capes scored in the gold medal final in 1988, helping Australia secure it’s first hockey title in Olympic history. The team played solidly in the preliminary round before defeating reigning Olympic and world champions the Netherlands 3-2 in the semi-final. In the final, the team beat South Korea 2-0, with Capes sealing the win with a trademark goal in the 58th minute after captain Debbie Bowman had earlier scored from a penalty. Also in the team was Lee’s sister, Michelle, making for a memorable family triumph.
