Leanne's Story
Leanne Choo rose to prominence after taking out the U/17 Australian Championships in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles in 2006 and went on compete at her first World Junior Championships in the same year. She began with doubles partner Renuga Veeran in 2010, the same year they made the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.
Despite missing out on the mixed doubles with fellow London Olympian Glenn Warfe, she made her Olympic debut in the women’s doubles with Veeran.
They took out their match against South Africa in straight sets and despite losing the other two group matches against top ten opponents progressed to the quarter finals after a number of teams were disqualified after tanking (purposely playing below standard) to secure a better draw. Choo and Veeran were unable to capitalise on the opportunity going down to Canada (21-9 18-21 21-18) in the quarter-finals.
