Lauren's Story

Lauren Mitchell made history in 2010 when she became Australia’s first female world gymnastics champion, winning the floor apparatus at the World Championships in Rotterdam, Holland. This success came off the back of four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. In 2009, Mitchell won silver on beam and floor, making her the only Australian to win two medals in the same competition. Mitchell was part of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Team where she was 6th as part of the team competition.

In addition to the team event in London, her second Olympic campaign, Mitchell contested the individual floor, vault and beam, making the floor final with a qualification round score of 14.833, placing 5th. In the final, Mitchell produced a fantastic performance to again earn 14.833 points. Although she increased her difficulty score to 6.4 from qualification, the result was just not enough to see her reach the podium, finishing 5th.
