Lachlan's Story
A rugby player turned bobsledder, Lachlan Reidy made his Olympic debut in the men’s 4man bobsleigh for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games.
In the four-man event, the Aussie boys finished in 25th place just +2.29 seconds behind the gold medallists from Germany, South Koreans in silver and another German crew in third. The Aussie bobsleigh crew were praised at the 2018 Games for being the spirit behind the team, cheering their teammates on loudly at events.
The 30-year-old first tried his hand at the sport in the North American summer of 2015 on the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympic track which hosts tourists rides for groups that wish to take on the track in essentially what is a bobsled on wheels. Reidy said he then became friends with former Australian pilot and 2014 Sochi winter Olympian Heath Spence, who took him on the joy ride and Reidy never looked back.
The Gosford native then preceded to train until the winter season arrived and where he had his first real bobsleigh ride being on the Calgary track in 2015. Reidy went on to make his international debut in the 2man North American Cup in Park City, USA in November 2015.
In the 2017/2018 season, Reidy helped the Aussie crew to some top results in the 2017/2018 season leading into the Olympics, including an 8th place in the 4man North America Cup in Calgary, Canada.
When he’s not on the track, Reidy loves to be at home with his fiancé, Alice and his family. He loves surfing, swimming, fishing, cycling and sampling beautiful coast cafes and restaurants.
