Kimberley's Story
Kim Brennan finally added gold to her collection when she claimed the top spot on the dais at the Rio 2016 Games, rowing in the women’s single sculls, and was anointed Australia's Closing Ceremony Flag Bearer in Brazil.
The Olympic Champion had a stellar 2015 season heading into her third Olympic campaign after she claimed her second single sculls World Championship title (the first being in 2013) and gold at both Rowing World Cups II & III.
A promising athlete, Brennan finished second to fellow Olympian Jana Pittman in the 400m hurdles at the Australian Athletics Championship, but before injury forced the Victorian to give up on Olympic Athletics aspirations. Through the Victorian Institute of Sport Talen Transfer program, Brennan took up rowing in 2005 and hasn’t looked back since.
In 2007, Brennan joined Sarah Cook in the women’s pair and the two showed great potential claiming gold and bronze medals at the 2007 World Cups and finished a respectable fourth at the World Championships. They were selected in the women’s pair at the Beijing Olympic Games and placed 10th.
At the London Games, Brennan made history when she competed in two separate Rowing events at the one Olympics. Partnered with Brooke Pratley, the duo brought home a silver medal in the women’s double sculls, before Brennan went on to claim a bronze in the single sculls. On top of a successful Olympic campaign, London 2012 was also where Brennan met her husband, 2008 gold medallist, Scott Brennan.
