Kieran's Story
Short track speed skater Kieran Hansen was a triple Olympian for Australia, competing at the 1992, 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics. He was part of the history-making short track men’s relay team that won Australia its first Winter Olympic medal in 1994. Hansen teamed with Steven Bradbury, Richard Nizielski and Andrew Murtha to win the medal. (John Kah was in Lillehammer as the team’s reserve.) The team showed its mettle in its qualifying race, finishing second. In the final, they put in a great performance. Italy raced away to the win, with the United States and Australia flashing across the line together. The two teams recorded the same time, but the US was awarded the silver medal.
