Kieran's Story
Despite being plagued by injury early on his career, Kieran Govers eventually had his chance shine on the international scene after making his senior team debut in 2010. He was selected for the Australian team that would go on and win the 2010 World Cup and Champions Trophy tournaments.
Govers was one of 11 hockey men making their Olympic debut in London. Kicking off the tournament with a resounding 6-0 victory over South Africa, Australia- ranked world number one- went on to beat Spain and Pakistan but drew with Argentina and Great Britain in the pool stage. In the semi-final the Australians held a 2-1 lead over defending Olympic Champions Germany midway through the second half, but the Germans stormed home to win 4-2. The Aussie Kookaburras bounced back to knock off the British 3-1 in the bronze medal match with Govers scoring the final goal of the game.
