Keryn's Story
Keryn McMaster made her Olympic debut in Rio, after three years dominating the women’s 400m individual medley in Australia.
The Queenslander claimed the 2013, 14 and 15 National titles before finishing second to fellow Australian teammate Blair Evans in a time of 4:37.94 at the 2016 Nationals. The pair both finished under the qualifying time to secure a spot in Rio.
McMaster went on to finish fourth in her heat of the event at the Games.
McMaster, who was born in New Zealand, took up swimming because she wanted to follow in the footsteps of her brother, Bryce. He’d been burnt badly as a toddler and got into swimming for rehab. He now competes for New Zealand in triathlon.
